“Producing art makes me feel like I’m escaping from reality and I’m in my own world and zone. It makes me feel free to create and express my feelings without being judged.”

Jasmine Benzon, Senior Artist

Hello my name is Jasmine Benzon, I grew up on the Central Coast. I’m a senior this year and going to be taking on the real world. When I think of ballet dancers, I am reminded of my childhood because I used to be in dance and ballet. Flowers make me think of myself and other people because they are a sign of self love and personal growth. Art is important to society because it’s played a big part in peoples lives, even back in the 1800’s. It helped people escape from reality and allowed them to truly express themselves, just like nowadays. Another reason why art is important to our society is that through art, you can tell your story without actually saying what it is; because it’s your work and you know the backstory. Producing art makes me feel like I’m escaping from reality and I’m in my own world and zone. It makes me feel free to do and express my feelings however without being judged. My favorite kind of art is drawing because when drawing, you can draw upside down and I think that’s a different perspective to look and do art. My favorite art medium is acrylic paint because you can easily paint over your mistakes and it makes it easy to touch up and fix your artwork. My future plans in art is probably to continue to do it as a side job so I can have an escape from reality and be able to be in my own positive space. Through art I’ve learned all kinds of ways how art has helped people through rough times and also help people tell their stories through it. I find that very fascinating. My art tells who I am because I connect it with my childhood through the ballet dancer and through flowers, as well as other meaningful images. Art allows me to relate to and connect with my personal growth.
