“Art is important to society because I believe it is human nature to enjoy creation and beauty.”

Gavin Gayfield, Senior Artist

My name is Gavin Gayfield and I’m a senior at Righetti High School. Ever since I was little I always liked to draw and make cool designs. That’s part of what lead to me taking art in my final year. I wanted to leave high school with a little bit more knowledge and practice so that I could have more fun making my own art whenever I felt like it. Art is important to society because I believe it is human nature to enjoy creation and beauty. Art helps us satisfy this part of our brain, and helping us find happiness as well as an escape from our boring daily routines. For me the finished product of my piece is what brings me the most joy rather than the process of making that product. It makes me feel great when I look at my final piece of art and know that it’s something I can be proud of and astound others with. My favorite kind of art that we did in class was the perspective drawing, and my favorite medium is graphite. I don’t really plan to take anymore art classes in the future but I’m thinking about creating and selling computer and phone wallpapers or posters/plaques. Through art I have learned that knowledge and hard work can take you far, even if you don’t have as much raw skill. Although I can sometimes be a pretty lazy person, when it comes to creating something I want to be proud of, I can’t stop until I am completely satisfied with the result, and I believe my art shows this.
