“I really believe that no matter how creative you think you are, exploring the many dimensions of art can really help you get to know yourself and the world around you better.”

Ruby Cox, Junior Artist

I’m Ruby Cox! I’m a junior and I loved taking art this year. I have never been very creative. Growing up, I’ve always been more of a numbers girl, but I really enjoyed learning ways to express myself through art this year. I love watching movies, spending time with my family, and rowing. I think that art has helped me so much this year, just as it has helped millions of people today, and in the past. Art gives us a way to express how we feel in multiple mediums, not just through our words. So many things today have influences from art. The computers we use, the houses we live in, and the way we see other people are all affected by art. Making art makes me feel like I can slow things down, focus on what’s in front of me, and let out how I feel. My favorite way to do this is by collaging. Cutting up pieces of paper and making a beautiful piece out of scraps is fascinating to me. I plan on expressing myself through art for many years to come, even if I’m not in any art classes. In art I’ve learned a lot about how being a great artist isn’t just something you’re born with, most of the time you have to work for it. I really believe that no matter how creative you think you are, exploring the many dimensions of art can really help you get to know yourself and the world around you better.
